The Prairie Girls’ Soccer team played at Coe College against Kennedy on Tuesday for their second game of the season.

Prairie and Kennedy faced off in rainy conditions. The first half was slow with no goals from either team. The second half had more action with both teams scoring and Riley Coulter tying the game 1-1 with a goal.

This put the game into overtime where Jenna Leggat scored a game-winning goal with fifty-two seconds left against the Cougars.

“Kennedy was a team we really wanted to beat so going into overtime we were all pretty pumped up and ready to get what we needed to get the job done and leave with a win,” said  Leggat.

Once Leggat scored the goal the team and coaches stormed the field to celebrate.

“Seeing all of my teammates and coaches storming the field after I scored and seeing how excited they all were was a really great feeling. It was a huge team effort and we were all just excited to have come out of that long and exciting game with a win,” said Leggat.

The Girls’ Soccer team has a busy week ahead of them with a Double-Header with the Boys’ Soccer team against Dubuque Hempstead at 5:15 pm and a game on Saturday against Xavier at 2:00 pm.

“We are a young group that has a lot of talent, so being able to build off of that will help during our season,” said Senior, Sophie Meier.
