The Prairie Girls’ Soccer team has started off with a 7-2 record.
The girls are ranked 10th in the state, as of May 1st, and are hoping to continue their success through the rest of the season.
“We want to keep consistency and not play down to other teams’ levels. We want to be able to play our level of soccer and dictate the pace and intensity of the games,“ said Mya Washburn and Sophie Meier, senior co-captions.
The team’s two losses have come after two overtimes and penalty kicks. This means they haven’t lost in regulation time.
“Being 7-2 overall considering our only losses are in penalty kicks and not in the 80 minute regulation time [is a major accomplishment],” said Washburn and Meier.
The team is hoping to reach state for the first time in the program’s history.
“We have continued to grow as a team on and off the field, we have become better in many different ways throughout the years. We also continue to make goals for ourselves and keep on making them,” said Washburn and Meier.
The girls have five more games in the season and their first regional game is May 23rd.
