The Prairie Ridge Rockstars took on the Hawk Walk at the High School track this past Friday.

“The kids get so excited! They think it’s so amazing to be where the high schoolers are and to be on the track, and of course, they love the music,” Principal Amy Beach said.

When Prairie started the Hawk Walk tradition in 2003, they had the walk in the parking lot. This year’s Hawk Walk was at the track. The students were free to run around the track and enjoyed themselves as they completed their laps. One big takeaway from the students was the music playing while they were walking.

“I liked getting to do the shoot,” a Prairie Ridge student claimed.

The students requested that the fourth graders could make the playlist next year so they could enjoy the music even more.

As the students walk around and dance they have the biggest smile on their faces, they know that they’re helping their school out. That they are funding current activities, events, and teachers’ requests.

All students needed to turn in their fundraising packet with or without donations to reach their participation goal. Since the whole school has reached their goal by turning in the packet they now get to have a bouncy house party.

“Our PTO had always had the vision of not having kids sell things. If they have a monetary goal they will try to achieve it,” Principal Amy Beach said.

The students raised several thousand dollars to earn a school wide movie. They get to go to the concert hall and watch a movie in a theater room atmosphere.

There was a possible chance of rain on the day of the hawk walk. Principal Amy Beach said, “I was really nervous this year because it was supposed to rain.”

The kids were glad that the rain held off and they got to have the Hawk Walk out on the track because the gym would have been the backup plan. It would be difficult to fit everyone in the gym, because the students got to bring their parents out for the Hawk Walk.

“Why wouldn’t you like the Hawk Walk?” another Prairie Ridge Student said.

The students really enjoyed the Hawk Walk and they hope that next year at the Hawk Walk there will be more activities. Overall the Principal, Mrs. Beach, thinks that the Hawk Walk will be running the same way next year and it was a success.
